“When I got the call I was so excited and couldn’t wait to start!”

Top tip…

“Just be yourself - then you can see if Argos is the right company for you and the assessors can see the real you and gauge where you will fit in. I’d also say that if one aspect of the assessment centre doesn’t go as well as you had hoped… try to forget about it and make sure you do even better in the other exercises.”

Jess’ Career Journey

Why Argos…
“I heard about the scheme through a recruitment agency. Until then, I just wouldn’t have considered Argos. But my perception of them as a graduate employer has gone from strength to strength. Argos takes it very seriously.”

“When I graduated from Uni, all I really knew was that I wanted to work in retail, not which discipline I wanted to work in. The way that the scheme is set up – rotating through different departments - really attracted me to the company.”

Being chosen…

“The application process was very smooth. I was kept in the loop throughout the process and there was always someone available to answer any questions or queries.

“I found the Assessment Centre surprisingly enjoyable! Everyone was very relaxed and natural which created an atmosphere that put you at ease. It was apparent that the day was really geared up to assess both whether candidates were right for Argos and also whether Argos was right for the candidates.”

“When I got the call I was so excited and couldn’t wait to start!”

The programme…

“Spending 2 years rotating around the business provides you with a really unique perspective and set of experiences. By gaining a good insight into so many areas of the company, you not only get a good idea as to the disciplines and areas of strength or particular interest – but will also gain a deep insight into the way the business works.”

“The culture is supportive, fast-paced, professional, challenging – but relaxed.”

“I love the fast pace of the scheme – each rotation is packed with new experiences.”

Getting started…

“I really enjoyed working in store. There is so much to learn about the way the store works, our customers and competitors - as well as really testing your people management skills. It’s a really great place to start the Graduate scheme and start to build an understanding of the business.”

Development…

“I work on the publications and promotional deals we have. I am involved in everything from the initial selection stages of the products that will feature to deciding which products will be on the front covers to checking the artwork and feel of each publication.”

“I’m now at the end of my third rotation in the Marketing Promotions team. Before that I was in the Central Replenishment Team, which sits within Supply. And next, I’m due to go to Trading – working in the DVD, Set Top Box and CE Accessorise team.”

“Each rotation has been really enjoyable yet challenging and I’ve learnt a huge amount: I can really see the benefit of spending time in different areas of the business. I’ve also had a lot of exposure and contact with senior managers which has been really motivating, challenging and rewarding.”

Mentors…

“I have found my relationship with my mentor invaluable. They are a great source of knowledge and advice. My mentor works in an area of the company I have yet to work in and so provides a great insight and perspective.”

Why you should apply…

“Argos is a great place to start your career. The scope of the experience one gains on the graduate programme is huge. Argos really invests in making sure that the time graduates spend on the scheme is fully maximised - ensuring we are in the best position to become leaders in the future.”

“If you want a unique opportunity to learn a huge amount about business and make a real difference then this is the right scheme to apply for!”
